Energy management and information system (EMIS) are a powerful family of tools to monitor and store building/system data and provide data analytics. Monitoring-based commissioning (MBCx) is a process that uses this data to identify inefficiencies in energy system operations, facilitate diagnostics, and ensure persistence of savings. EMIS can be used for MBCx projects to ensure optimized building performance. Organizations that have implemented diverse EMIS technologies have reported site energy savings of up to 20%, and are adamant these savings could not have been achieved or maintained without the analytical tools that EMIS provide. As these technologies rapidly emerge and evolve, many people have questions about their benefits, procurement and use. For example, what are best practices in using EMIS to support MBCx? How do I distinguish one EMIS offering from another? How do I plan for and implement an EMIS? What does the technology cost, and what kind of savings can I expect? How can the procurement and specification process be simplified? Attendees at this session will learn about a set of resources developed by LBNL which answer these common questions and can help users implement an EMIS or expand the current use of EMIS in their organizations. •A primer that presents features and benefits of different types EMIS technologies, six steps in the EMIS planning process, key issues in EMIS implementations, and best practices of using EMIS to streamline MBCx process

•A procurement support package that includes RFP template, technology specification, and evaluation criteria

•A regional guide to incentives that summarizes utility pilots, programs and incentives that support EMIS implementation

•A cost and benefit study that identifies energy information system costs, energy and utility cost savings, and best practices.

•An upcoming EMIS Campaign offered by the Department of Energy to provide technical support to participants in their EMIS installations and MBCx processes.
